... came along for dinner today. Well, correct it would be that we carried her to our house and brought her back to her home today. We enjoyed a nice three course dinner together, made a fire in our fireplace and had some coffee, too.

My friend really thinks about moving into a nursing home, but she still loves her flat so much it is hard for her to move. Well, after her stroke she does only leave the house with someone else coz she fears going alone. So she is a bit handicapped with her social life.

A hard task - giving good care to myself

For me it is hard to give myself the care I need. I was brought up to care for everybody else more than for myself.

So staying at home when I have just pain and do not feel well - hey I am not like dead, I could go to work. So allowing myself to call ill at work and stay in bed is hard although it was the right thing to do. I am allready feeling much better.

Today I had to call ill again. My taking the antibiotics early was not enough to keep me going.

Hey, I thought I take them as soon as I knew something was wrong and I would manage to keep out of the pain zone. I was wrong. Now I hope to be better tomorrow.

Today I saw a woodpecker during work. He was pecking on a tree nearby. A lovely little bird.

It was such a beautiful thing to see.

What is not so go is that it was very cold yesterday and today I recognized the symptoms of a bladder infect. A visit to the doc told me I was right and antibiotics will help.

...to beautiful fabrics. Today I made a pillowcover from an African fabric screenprinted in Zimbabwe - it will soon find a new home as a birthday present for someone who loves Africa although she has never been there yet. I bought the fabric here.

The ice is not big enough to walk on it.

Doing my household chores I saw this image through the window.

I grabbed my camera from downstairs and ran to the window again.

Opened the door and went on our balcony which was loaded with snow.

Shot, shot shot, please pose for me.

Going back into the house I lost control of my feet.

Sliding into the room all I thought was not to fall and

damage my camera.

Everything went well, just one of my fingers got a bit damaged,

but I think it was worth the shots.

A little bit of fuzzy snow

I only left home for getting fresh rolls for breakfast.

It is cold outside and we had a bit of fuzzy snow.

Just little snowflakes.

After a hot noodle dinner I decided to bake a cake.

There were still so much eggs and choc -

an almost instant choc-cake was it.

It will come with me to work tomorrow.

Still a bit wet inside it will taste a bit like truffles.

I ordered fresh vanilla beans today. When you buy

them in a shop they are very pricey.

Ordering online I can get much more vanilla beans.

I use one or two each time I make cookies.

The big wall of boxes from our moves is getting down

to 10 or so. We are getting surprises sometimes.

Today I will pack my backpack with some clothes, coz tomorrow after work I will go direct to meet an old friend of mine. I will stay there until Saturday and hope to come back with some pics from rural Germany.

After 25 days with the word discipline my life has not changed dramatically. I am not more pretty or clever than in 2011.

What has changed is my attitude towards some things I did not like before.

I still hate getting up early, but I did much more housework than usual and I like how our house looks like. I do not complain as much as before about things needed to be done. I still have days I am not super upper happy, but hey, you can not change a pessimistic person into an optimist during a short period of time.

I would have never choosen discipline for myself, but I believe it was what I needed.

(My hubby suggests courage for 2013).

I have to take the train very often. Today I could take the ICE. I was happy, because it has so much space and I really felt comfortable.

How to make - cookies

You will need:

50 g flour

100 g ground nuts ( I use almonds or hazelnuts)

100 g brown or cane sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon baking soda

2 vanilla-beans or 1/2 teaspoon ground vanilla

125 g butter at room temperature

1 spoon rum or whatever is aviable and has a bit of alcohol

150 g oat flakes

Mix in a bowl everything without the oat flakes until everything dissolved.

Then add the oat flakes and mix it until every flake is wet. Use for this process a big bowl and your hands.

Bake the cookies at 180 ° C until they are starting to become a little bit brown at the edges.

My hubby loves it when they are still a bit wet inside and nearly white outside.

Just love this time alone. I do not need to do something special. I did the grocery shopping and some washing. Just some tasks needed to be done. And I slept alot. And I had nice meals with a lovely white wine. And I read a bit. Over the years I read a lot of books. My bookshelves can not manage to hold them all - so now when I have read a book I do not think I need to read again - I give it away. More space and someone else can enjoy. A winwin.

After work I had a date with my skin doc. Just the half year cancer check up. Two small operations today and tomorrow a day to call ill at work coz the cuts are in not so nice places. In two weeks I will get the results and he will decide when and if I will have the next operation.

After the roof was finished I had a good day free ahead. Cold clear weather - time for a lot of fun.

Hey, my word for this year is discipline - so I made some phone-calls and got someone else to come and see the next problem in our house today and tell us tomorrow how much the repair will cost. And I went to George, my fav hairdresser. He is quick, speaks not much, knows that I alltimes come without a date and it takes just 15 minutes and is cheap.

A bit of fun - in between I went shopping, bought some books and ribbons and had a nice meal.

After trying for the third time to get flames in our open fireplace - yes, it burns, but no flames and a lot of smoke - I have now cookies in the oven - I hope to get them out before they look like coals.

Today I had to take a day off from work coz our roof was leaking. Water was coming down. Today the people with fixing skills came. And I went up to see what they are doing. Our roof is with so low high that I managed to bump my head there. On all four is the required technique.

Hope they finish their task good. Fresh brewed coffee waits for them coz it is frozen up there.

Sunday fog

Today it was white when I looked out of the window. Still sleepy I told my husband that it must have snowed coz it is so white. Well, it was not snow - it was heavy fog.

And another thing was bothering me: My parents had announced that they would come for a visit. I could delay their wish from saturday to sunday, but that was all. I told them to come around lunch time coz we could then go out for lunch. That was what we did. It is still difficult for me to see them, but it gets much more on a comfortable level. After I moved out seeing them caused each time a four day bad time. Two days before and two days after. I was a nervous wreck and caused hazard. Now I am down to four to two hours. Four hours I was not so nice before their visit and it took me two hours to get on a normal level afterwards. So I am getting better.

... to clean our garbage bin. It was smelling, but empty. I was not long enough to reach the bottom so I had to jump into it. I really did not like it and I loved my shower afterwards, but it was something needed to be done.

Today was another rainy day. Nothing much happened. I worked long to get one extra hour to get off early tomorrow coz I want to meet with a friend. Mine was hard although everyone else would tell you it was soft.
Yes, I did not feel hungry and I had shelter, that is right.
I grow up in my family, I went on holidays and so on.

But do you know - it does not help.

I can not change history. I have to accept that my family tried to do their best.

What I have to do is to get my own resolutions. I have to decide what is good for me.

Sometimes I look back over the day and realise I behaved like my mom.

I do not want this but...

it is really hard to change these patterns - they are like burned in my brain, but it is worth trying to change them.

I am a crazy creative mind. When I play I get a lot of good results. In this way I am totally happy with my life.

What I do not like in my actual life is that I miss to do some things that are important for me.

Things I do not do coz I am to lazy or there is something else to do. You know - things that are important, but not on my "like" list.

I decided to change my behaviour. I will do each day something I do not like. Something that needs to be done but that is not my fav. And I will try to stay each day more in the moment.

This sounds a bit unspecific, but for today I will, go and clean our shower.

Today - white hands

Today I decided to paint the heating system in the parts where the colour was damaged some days ago. White paint - check - found - start. Well, no paint, just something hard. I put my hand in it to see if I could manage to find some liquid under the hard surface. Well, there was - and my hand was white. The paint did not go off with water. Several scrubs later I still have partly white hands, but the painting is done, too.

Why I started to like Christmas again...

When I was a child Christmas started to become a holiday I did not enjoy very much. O.k., it was nice to get presents. Just the circumstances...

Two Christmas services to attend, my Granny asking for carols at home, the do's and don'ts at home...

When I was old enough to stay away I prefered to stay alone on the 24th or to visit friends.

Now when we stay with the family of my hubby nobody asks me for anything. It is enough to be. I do not have to play a role. It is enough to be myself.

So I started to like Christmas again.

I am feeling better today.

Still needing a lot of sleep and staying mostly in bed.

Coughing and cold are still there but on a lower level.

Tomorrow the mechanic for our heating system will come and I hope to have some heating in "my room" afterwards. At the moment our kitchen is the nicest room for me coz it is cozy warm.

Today I had a day off from work. I had made a date with our local social trade center coz I want to give away some things we do not need any longer. They could only come during the morning between 9 and 12 for looking and it will take them another day for collecting the stuff. So I took today a day off from work. They came early and I had nearly the whole day for myself.

I asked Ana yesterday if there is something she wants to see today. She told me she wants to see Christmas around and perhaps pics from the park when the weather is nice enough. Today we had a grey rainy day. Not much fun to go into the city to catch some Christmas. So I decided to catch some really nice scenery around my home. Near to my home at the lake they sell Christmas trees in all shapes and highs. A Christmas tree is a "must" in this part of the world. I will have one waiting for me in the Hunsrück area.

Everything is in autumn grey and brown. We had allready once some snow but it melted right away.

And I could not resist to take a pic of the two naked ones, just behind the Christmas tree shop.

For weeks in a part of our kitchen a very unpleasant

smell could be noticed. I had no clue where it came from -

until I made lunch today and discovered one onion gone rotten.

Why I worried yesterday

I do not want to go into the little details. It is not as interesting as that for anybody who was not involved. Just this:

As word for 2011 I had choosen "prosper".

That is something I believe I realised this year in my private life.

Well, in my working life I thought I could not realise it. I am still with a contract until next summer. In the last one and a half year I did several different jobs for the firm I am currently working with. Jumping in wherever there was a need. When I asked my big boss for a resumee coz I wanted to apply for a permanent job elsewhere I just got an " 3" on a scale from 1 (best) to 6 (worst). 3 is really bad in my corporate world so I applied but did not get the job.

Yesterday we had a meeting and the big boss thanked all persons who were working on a project. He thanked all - just missing me. I do not think he wants to be unfair to me. I just think he does not know what I am doing.

And somebody else told me some weeks ago that I shall teach other persons to do my current job, coz I will do something else in the new year. When I asked what I will do I only got the answer that they are not sure yet.

Heck, I am doing good work. I reached all the reachable goals. And I worked mostly on my own in very different projects. Just asking for help when I needed some information.

That was the status yesterday.

Today I asked my direct boss if he knows that my big boss has given me a 3 (My direct boss was not aviable at the time I needed my resumee). And that I think the big boss does not know what I am doing and I do not know what I will do next year.

He said he will take care of the situation.

I do not know if the situation will be better in the future, but I am happy that I asked. You see, I can ask nearly everything - as long as I am not involved. When I ask for somebody else - easypeasy. When I ask for something for myself - oh, not today, I am not worth it...

So equal what will be the outcome: I am happy to have asked.

Today work starts late so I woke before the alarmclock rang.

I had enough time for a proper breakfast.

I could brew my hubby a tea (usual he brews for me).

It starts to dawn before I have to leave.

... did I need to take today against my pain?

I can tell you it were some of the bigger sort.

I hoped I could kill the pain with them.

A pain that was everywhere in my body.

A dull pain.

It went not away like normally after a hot shower.

The pills did not show much effect, either.

I am allowed three per day and allready took two.

I will take the last one short before bedtime.

To think about something pleasant is the only thing that lightens my pain at the moment.

To visit your blogs is better in it than my pills.

Sleeping beauty

That was me during the last days.

After work all I searched for was sleep.

Going in bed early. Trying to stay there as long as possible.

No interruptions, please.

Today I stayed awake a bit to write some Christmas cards.

... and trying, trying very hard at it.

This time of the year is a very busy time. We have a lot of birthdays of friends and family.

A lot of preparations needed to be done. And Christmas is just behind the door.

Same at work, a lot is needed to be done in very short time.

I have to remember to take some breaks. Thinking what has priority and how can I do it. Taking tea breaks and short walks to find solutions. And I have to remind me that I should not miss the beauty around me.
